Charlotte, NC (WBTV) -  Bojangles’ announced it has raised $188,860 for the Charlotte chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association during its annual golf tournament held in September at Providence Country Club in south Charlotte.

This represents the 13th year for the tournament, which, along with the company’s in-store fundraiser each March, has raised more than $2.3 million to support the organization’s research and patient support efforts.

“Each year we look forward to the Bojangles’ MDA Golf Classic not only because it’s an enjoyable event, but because it is an opportunity to raise a significant amount of money for a very worthy cause,” said Bojangles’ President and CEO Randy Kibler.  “We know every dollar raised will have an impact on local research to help find an effective treatment and ultimately a cure for limb-girdle muscular dystrophy.  The entire Bojangles’ team and our participating partners are very proud to be involved in the efforts of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.”

The Bojangles’ Golf Classic raises funds in support of pediatric Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy (LGMD) Research at the McColl-Lockwood Laboratory at Carolinas Medical Center (CMC).  In addition, the Leon Levine Foundation will match the funds contributed by Bojangles’, under a “challenge” arrangement with CMC’s Levine Children’s Hospital.

“Bojangles’ has been a long-time supporter of MDA, and we couldn’t provide the level of service we do to families in the Charlotte area if it weren’t for the funds raised through the company’s golf tournament and Shamrocks Against Dystrophy™ in-store fundraiser,” said MDA Executive Director Elizabeth Kayed.
